Business of the Month
February 2009
Prairie du Rocher American Legion

The
Chamber is proud to present the next business of the month, The American
Legion Post 622. We would like
to thank the legion for being the location of our monthly meetings.
The American Legion was chartered by the U.S. Congress in 1919 as a
patriotic wartime veteran organization. The American Legion is a non for
profit community service organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. The
Legions number one goal is service to the veteran, to their families, and to
the community. Joseph Park Post
622, Prairie du Rocher, was chartered in 1934. Pvt. Joseph Park, age 28, was
killed in action during WW1 in France. He is buried in the Meuse-Argonne
American cemetery in Romagne-Sous-Montfaucon, France.
Post 622
memberships are currently 190+. The post actively participates with the
American Legion Ladies Auxiliary to provide services to the community of
Prairie du Rocher and the surrounding area. We support youth organizations
such as the Boy Scouts of America in their efforts to provide services to
the community. The annual food drive is a joint project that we work
together on.
The post
is open to the public and the legion hall is available for booking your
social events. We appreciate the support the community gives back to the
Legion. You can contact the manager at (618) 284 -9509.
If you or someone you know is a veteran and would like to know if you
are eligible to become a member of the American Legion or Ladies Auxiliary,
please stop by the post and inquire. Commander Mike Kennedy says “We are
proud to be associated with the Prairie du Rocher Chamber of Commerce and
applaud your efforts in continuing to bring new and exciting ideas to the
village of Prairie du Rocher and the surrounding area.”
